Estimados Padres y Madres de 12vo grado
Deseo informarles que ayer los estudiantes de 12vo grado llevaron una carta a casa detallando algunas expectativas que la escuela tiene para los próximos meses cuando los estudiantes esten terminando sus clases normales y preparándose para los exámenes del BI y por supuesto cuando esten realizando en Mayo, estos exámenes que son tan importantes para ellos. Dicha carta está adjunta al final y necesitan firmar el acuso de recibido el cual necesita ser entregado en mi oficina a más tardar este viernes. También nuevamente he adjuntado el horario de Exámenes del BI. A los estudiantes se les enivó un horario más detallado con las horas de inicio específicas. Gracias por el contínuo apoyo ayudando para que la clase del 2011 de máxima prioridad a sus exámenes del BI durante los meses siguientes.

Dear Parent of Grade 12,
I just wanted to let you know that a letter was sent home with grade 12 students yesterday outlining some expecations that the school has for the next few months when studnets are finishing normal classes, gettting ready for their IB exams and of course writing their very important IB exams in May. This letter is attached below and there is a relply slip that needs to be returned to my office no later than Friday. I have also attached the IB exam scedule again. Students were were also sent a more detailed timetable with specific start times. Thank you all for your continued support in helping the Class of 2011 keep their IB exams as their most important priority over the next few months.

Estimados padres de familia,
Como habrán notado en el calendario escolar los examenes están a las puertas, y los alumnos deben estar ya preparándose para ellos estudiando y repasando.
Es por esta razón y con el propósito de brindar a los padres de familia herramientas útiles para poder ayudar a sus hijos en este tiempo les invitamos a nuestra proxima reunion de padres en sociedad el martes 22 de febrero a las 6pm en el PAC con el tema : “Exito en los Exámenes” o “Exam Fever”

Estimados Madres y Padres de familia,
Muchas gracias para su asistencia el la entrega de notas de Cal 1. Es muy importante de aprovechar estas oportunidades a reunir con los profesores de sus hijos y hijas. Muy pronto vamos a tener otra oportunidad para trabajar junots en la:
Reunion de Padres y Madres en Sociedad.
Este proximo miercoles 1 de Diciembre tendremos a Adriano Bolanos quien nos apoya en el programa de prevencion de abuso de substancias. El presentara la charla “Drogas Legales y nuestra tolerancia a ellas. Como mantener a nuestros hijos seguros.” La presentacion comenzara a las 6:00pm en el PAC.
Esperamos que todos los padres y madres de familia de 8o grado a 12o grado esten presentes.
Al igual que para ustedes, esto es un tema de suma importancia para nosotros. Lo mejor que podemos hacer es trabajar en conjunto para darles el mismo mensaje a nuetros jovenes y ayudarles asi a mantenerse sanos y saber como tomar decisiones correctas para ellos.

Parent Partnership Meeting
Next Wednesday, 1 December Adriano Bolaños, on behalf of our programme of prevention of drug and substance abuse, will be presenting on the topic “Our Tolerance Towards Legal Drugs and How to keep our children safe.” The presentation will start at 6:00pm and will take place in the PAC.
We hope that all parents of students in grades 8-12 will be able to attend.
We know that this topic is of great importance at home as well as at school. We need to work together and ensure that we send the same message to the young people in our community both to keep them healthy as well has help them make correct decisions.

Dear Parents and Students,
Please remember that Monday 22 November at 5:30 PM, Cal One Reports will be issued in the PAC. Grade 12 teachers will be available for interviews. Please take full advantage of this oportunity. There are few things to keep in mind.
- Anywhere that you see a Work SKills grade below 2.5, there is a cause of concern.
- Low grades in HL subjects can prevent the award of the IB Diploma. (You will revcieve a copy of the IB regualtions when you pick up your child’s report)
- In order to graduate with honours in June, a final cumulative average must be 8.30 or higher.
When you pick up your child’s report, you will also be given an update on your Child’s porgress in the CAS programe. In order to graduate from the ABC and earn the MinED Diploma your child must sucessfully complete CAS. Please make sure that you discuss this report with your son/daughter. If you have any questions, please talk to your child’s IB Advisor.
Finally, I have attached a PPT on financial aid for students applying to Universities in the USA. It may be useful for you to have a look at.

Favor tomar nota que los reportes de Cal. 1 serán entregados el día lunes 22 de noviembre a las 5:30pm en el PAC. Los profesores de 12vo grado estarán presentes para conversar con ustedes, por favor aprovechen esta oportunidad. Hay algunos aspectos para tomar en cuenta;
Si usted observa una nota menor a 2.5 en Habilidades de Trabajo, esto debe preocuparle
Bajas calificaciones en las materias de Nivel Superior (HL) pueden causar que no se obtenga el Diploma BI (Ustedes recibirán una copia de los Reglamentos de BI al recoger el reporte de su hijo/hija)
Para poder graduarse con honores en Junio, deben de obtener un promedio final de 8.3 o mayor.
Cuando ustedes recogan el reporte de su hijo/hija también recibirán un reporte actualizado sobre el progreso de su hijo/hija en el programa de CAS. Para poder graduarse de la ABC y obtener el Diploma del MINED su hijo de completar el programa de CAS. Por favor asegurese de discutir este reporte con su hijo/hija. Si ustedes tienen alguna pregunta o duda favor comunicarse con el Asesor del IB de su hijo/hija.
Para terminar he adjuntado una presentaicón sobre Ayuda Financiera disponible para estudiantes aplicando a universidades de E.E.U.U. Puede que les sea de utilidad leerla.

Financial Aid Basics for US – CIS Institute – Monterrey Mexico 2010[1]

Estimados Padres de Familia y Estudiantes de 12vo grado.
Ayer en la Asamblea hablamos sobre algunos aspectos que ustedes deben tener presente.
1. La fecha límite de entrega del Esquema de la Monografía (EE) es este viernes. Al final hay una lista de preguntas guías, los estudiantes a la fecha ya deben de haberser reunido con su Supervisor.
2. A los estudiantes se les mosntró como hacer una búsqueda de Universidad en el sitio web de “Common Application”. La información dada a los estudiantes está en la presentación (power point) adjunta al final.
3. Muy pronto los estudiantes deberán pedir a sus profesores que les escriban cartas de recomendación como soporte para sus aplicaciones a las universidades. Deben solicitarles las cartas con mucha anticipación para darle tiempo a los profesores ya que ellos tienen obligaciones dentro y fuera de la escuela. Las cartas de recomendación son una parte vital del proceso de aplicación.
4. Finalmente, muchos de los profesores me han comentado que mucho estudiantes no están aprovechando el tiempo de clases para completar sus trabajos y tareas. Algunas respuestas comunes quie dan los estudiantes incluyen: “Trabajo mejor en la casa” o “Lo terminaré en la casa, no se preocupe”. Muchos de ustedes han descubierto a esta fecha que los alumnos del BI se desvelan muchas noches estudiando. Parte de esto es por la demanda académica del Programa del BI, pero la contraparte de esto es que los estudiantes deben de aprovechar el tiempo de clases que se les da aquí en la escuela. Por favor converse sobre esto con su hijo/hija.
5. El Sr. Quijano y su servidor estaremos durante las próximas semanas tomando tiempo para reunirnos individualmente con todos los alumnos de 12vo grado para conversar sobre las opciones de universidades. Ustedes pueden ayudar en casa pidiendole a su hijo/hija que converse sobre sus opciones con ustedes.

Dear Grade 12 students and parents.
Yesterday in our weekly assembly we talked about a few items that you need to be aware of.
- The Extended Essay Outline is due in on Friday. There are some guiding questions listed below and students should have met with their Extended Essay supervisors by now.
- Students were shown how to do a college search on the common application site. The information that was shared is in the power point presentation attached below.
- Students will need to ask their teachers for letters of reference to support their university applications very soon. They need to ask teachers well in advance as well as provide teachers with a summary of their activities on and off campus. Letters of reference are a vital part of the application process.
- Finally, numerous teachers have commented to me that many students are not taking advantage of class time to complete assigned tasks. Common responses from the studetns include: “I work better at home.” or “I will finish it at home, don’t worry.” As many of you are already aware, out IB stundents spend many late nights studying. Part of this is of course due to the demands of the IB programme, but another part of this is that stundents need to take advantage of the class time that they are given here at school. Please have a conversation with your son or daughter on this topic.
- Mr. Quijano and myself are also taking the next few weeks to arrange a one on one meeting with all stundents in grade 12 to discuss their university options. You can help at home by asking your son/daughter to talke about their options with you.

How to Ask Your Teacher for a Letter of Reference

Hi Grade 12,
The time has come for some of you to apply early to your first choice university in the USA. The deadline for this is usually November 1st or November 15th depending on the university. They will be asked if they want to apply “early action” or “early decision”. In “early action” the university will consider the application early and may offer a place. There is no binding contract entered into. “Early decision” on the other hand is binding on behalf of the student. That means that if they are accepted they need to withdraw all other applications that are in process with other universities. ONLY APPLY EARLY DECISION IF YOU ARE 100% SURE THAT IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED THAT YOU WILL ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY This may be a major concern with regards to financial aid as often students will have to accept the early decision without knowing the amount of financial aid they will receive.

Dear IB Parents,
Many thanks to the many of you that were able to attend the IB Know Your School Evening on Tuesday 24th August. I would like to stress again the importance of the school and parents working together to ensure that our students are sucessful in both the IB Diploma and the University application process. I would also like to stress the importance of an IB Grade of 5.5. This is the ‘magic’ number that is needed to have the best transcript possible and to be able to graduate with honours at the end of grade 12. Please have a look that the links to the right for the college board site (SAT registration), the common application site (many US universites) and UCAS (the application site for universities in the UK). Below I have also uploaded the following documents.

Deseo enfatizar nuevamente la importancia de que la escuela y los padres trabajen juntos para asegurarse que nuestros estudiantes sean exitosos tanto en el Diploma del BI como en el proceso de aplicar a las Universidades. Quiero enfatizar la importancia de obtener calificaciones en el BI de 5.5.
